I worked as a Core Audit Manager at PwC Kazakhstan who managed audit engagements for largest companies in local logistics, energy, automotive and real estate industries (list not exhaustive). My primary goal was to make audit work simpler for all teams within an engagement without compromising quality through thoughtful understanding of business processes, acceleration of audit procedures during non-peak periods, and integration of innovative technologies such as DataSnipper, Alteryx, Power BI, Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications, etc. Specifically, I endorsed usage of new tech. For example, I deliver practical office-wide trainings on Alteryx and lead the local PwC Digital Lab initiative hosted by the UK office which aims to allow tech-savvy auditors in the office to create digital assets which would automate audit work for the whole office. To achieve this, I studied VBA and Alteryx on top of my main audit routine and earned accolades of an Alteryx Champion and Digital Accelerator for three consecutive years. Another instance of successful implementation of digital solutions at an audit engagement was the development of an automated VBA script for calculation of embedded derivative assets and deferred lease income for 250+ lease contracts containing FX call options for a Client in a real estate industry. This one-click solution was developed under consultations with PwC Global Corporate Reporting Services team to adhere with the IFRS guidelines. Aside from technology, I was also involved in first time implementation of ISA 315 (R) planning procedures, with the completed engagements receiving very positive feedback as part of audit file cold review by foreign reviewers, noting transparency and clarity of audit files. I also worked close with CRS and local methodology teams on complex matters such as impairment, financial guarantees, IFRS 16 lease, IFRS 15 revenue recognition, etc. Lastly, I am somewhat of a book nerd since university. This helped me pass all 13 ACCA exams within 2 years. All these efforts earned me a double promotion at PwC Kazakhstan from Senior Associate 2 to Manager in September of 2023. I highly value and promote ideas of continuous learning and development as well as openness and real-time feedback from others, both downward and upward. Currently, I am enjoying my time as an adjunct professor at KIMEP Bang College of Business teaching audit and accounting courses on a part-time basis.
